Flash: Changing the Color of A Movie Clip

Source Files: Download
Level: Medium
Version: 5
Preview Final Movie

Step 1: Create a new Movie Clip

Create a movie clip and place an instance of it on the stage. In the Instance panel, name the movie clip.

  1. In this example, the top of the umbrella is the separate movie clip since that's the object we'll change the color of
  2. The umbrella is clip art off the Freehand 9 CD. Break the graphic apart in Flash (Command-B) so that the top of the umbrella and the handle are separate.
  3. Select the top part of the umbrella and convert it to a movie clip (F8)

Step 2: Create a button

  1. Create a new button or buttons on the stage
  2. In this example, we created 3 buttons with each button representing a specific color

Step 3: Add the Actions

  1. Select one of the buttons by clicking on it
  2. In the Actions panel choose Set Variable
